How Many DEKA CO2 Laser Treatments Will I Need?

How Many DEKA CO2 Laser Treatments Will I Need? #

If you’re considering DEKA CO2 laser resurfacing, you may be wondering:

How many treatments will I actually need?

For many patients, one stronger DEKA fractional CO2 resurfacing treatment can produce meaningful improvement, particularly when the treatment is customized to the degree of skin damage.

However, some patients may benefit from additional treatments.

The number of DEKA CO2 laser treatments you need depends on:

  • What you’re treating
  • How advanced the concern is
  • Whether you choose mild, moderate, or aggressive fractional ablation
  • Your skin type
  • Your pigmentation history
  • Your healing response
  • How much improvement you want
  • How much downtime you’re willing to accept

This is different from automatically scheduling everyone for a package of three treatments.

At AIVI Aesthetics, we first determine how much resurfacing your skin actually needs.

Is One DEKA CO2 Laser Treatment Enough? #

For some patients, yes.

A single fractional CO2 resurfacing treatment can initiate both surface renewal and collagen remodeling.

If you have concerns such as:

  • Fine lines
  • Sun damage
  • Rough texture
  • Crepey skin
  • Wrinkles
  • Certain acne scars
  • Overall photoaging

you may see meaningful improvement after one appropriately selected treatment.

But one treatment doesn’t necessarily mean every concern will completely disappear.

There is a difference between:

Meaningful improvement

and

Complete correction.

Why Doesn’t Everyone Need the Same Number of CO2 Treatments? #

Because CO2 laser resurfacing is highly customizable.

Consider two patients.

One patient has mild sun damage, enlarged-looking pores, and early fine lines.

Another has deep wrinkles, significant photodamage, and established acne scars.

They should not automatically receive the same treatment intensity or the same number of sessions.

This is why asking:

“How many CO2 treatments does everyone need?”

is less useful than asking:

“How much correction does my skin need?”

How Many Mild DEKA Fractional CO2 Treatments Will I Need? #

At AIVI Aesthetics, mild fractional ablation is our lighter level of stronger DEKA resurfacing and is separate from CoolPeel.

Mild DEKA fractional CO2 may be considered for:

  • Fine lines
  • Mild-to-moderate sun damage
  • Uneven texture
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Early wrinkles
  • Mild crepey skin
  • Early photoaging

Some patients may be satisfied after one treatment, while others may benefit from a series of treatments performed over time.

A lighter treatment generally creates less correction per session than a more aggressive resurfacing procedure.

The trade-off is typically a more manageable recovery.

How Many Moderate DEKA CO2 Treatments Will I Need? #

Moderate fractional ablation creates a stronger resurfacing effect.

It may be considered for:

  • More established wrinkles
  • Moderate sun damage
  • Rough texture
  • Crepey skin
  • Certain acne scars
  • More noticeable photoaging
  • Greater collagen-remodeling needs

For many appropriately selected patients, one moderate treatment may provide meaningful improvement before we decide whether another treatment is necessary.

Rather than automatically scheduling another session, we allow the skin to heal and remodel before evaluating the result.

How Many Aggressive DEKA CO2 Treatments Will I Need? #

Aggressive fractional CO2 resurfacing is intended for patients requiring greater correction.

It may be considered for:

  • Deeper wrinkles
  • Significant sun damage
  • Advanced photoaging
  • More established acne scars
  • Significant textural irregularities
  • Pronounced crepey skin

Because aggressive resurfacing creates a stronger treatment effect, the goal is not necessarily to perform multiple aggressive treatments close together.

For many patients, the approach may be:

Perform the treatment ? allow complete healing and collagen remodeling ? reassess the skin ? decide whether anything else is needed.

More treatment is not automatically better.

How Many CO2 Treatments Do I Need for Wrinkles? #

It depends on the depth and cause of the wrinkles.

Fine lines and moderate etched wrinkles may respond well to appropriately selected fractional CO2 resurfacing.

Deeper wrinkles may require:

  • Stronger resurfacing
  • More than one treatment
  • Combination therapy

There is another important consideration.

Not every wrinkle is purely a skin problem.

If repeated muscle movement is creating the wrinkle:

Botox ? addresses movement

CO2 ? addresses the skin

For etched wrinkles, treating both components may sometimes produce a more comprehensive result than repeatedly resurfacing the skin alone.

How Many CO2 Treatments Do I Need for Sun Damage? #

Mild-to-moderate photoaging may show meaningful improvement after one treatment.

More extensive sun damage may require additional resurfacing or complementary treatments.

Sun damage may include:

  • Rough texture
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Dullness
  • Crepey skin
  • Loss of elasticity

It is also important to identify the pigmentation correctly.

Not every brown spot should automatically be treated with CO2.

Melasma, for example, requires particular caution because heat and inflammation can contribute to pigmentation problems in susceptible patients.

How Many CO2 Laser Treatments Are Needed for Acne Scars? #

Acne scars often require a different approach than general skin rejuvenation.

Some patients may need multiple treatment sessions, especially when scarring is moderate or severe.

But the number of laser treatments isn’t the only question.

First we need to determine the scar type.

Rolling Scars #

Some rolling scars respond to resurfacing.

If the scar is tethered underneath the skin, however, subcision may be needed to release the fibrous attachment.

Boxcar Scars #

Shallow-to-moderate boxcar scars may respond well to fractional CO2.

Deeper boxcar scars may require more aggressive or combination treatment.

Ice-Pick Scars #

Deep ice-pick scars may not respond adequately to CO2 alone and may require a scar-specific treatment.

This is why repeatedly performing CO2 without evaluating scar structure can lead to disappointing results.

The treatment has to match the scar.

Could I Need Three or More CO2 Treatments for Acne Scars? #

Possibly.

Acne-scar remodeling often requires patience.

A patient with significant mixed atrophic scars may benefit from a staged plan involving treatments such as:

Subcision ? release tethered scars

DEKA fractional CO2 ? resurface and remodel

RF microneedling or microneedling ? additional collagen remodeling when appropriate

PRF ? regenerative support when appropriate

That may produce a better result than simply repeating the same laser procedure several times.

Does Stronger CO2 Mean I Need Fewer Treatments? #

Potentially—but not always.

A stronger treatment generally creates a greater tissue effect during one session.

That may mean fewer sessions are necessary to reach a particular goal.

But stronger treatment also generally means:

  • More redness
  • More swelling
  • More peeling or crusting
  • Longer recovery
  • Greater pigmentation risk
  • More intensive aftercare

This creates an important trade-off.

Lighter Treatment #

Potentially:

Less downtime + more treatments

Stronger Treatment #

Potentially:

More downtime + fewer treatments

Neither strategy is automatically better.

The right approach depends on your skin and priorities.

Is CoolPeel the Same as a DEKA CO2 Resurfacing Treatment? #

At AIVI Aesthetics, we distinguish between CoolPeel and our stronger DEKA fractional CO2 resurfacing treatments.

CoolPeel uses CO2 laser technology but is performed as a lighter, more superficial resurfacing approach.

It may be appropriate for:

  • Fine lines
  • Mild texture
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Mild sun damage
  • Early photoaging
  • Patients prioritizing less downtime

Because it is lighter, a series may sometimes be appropriate.

Our stronger DEKA fractional CO2 resurfacing treatments can be performed at mild, moderate, or aggressive levels when greater correction is needed.

The stronger treatment isn’t simply “a better CoolPeel.”

It is a different treatment strategy with different downtime and goals.

Should I Do Three CoolPeels or One Stronger CO2 Treatment? #

There isn’t one answer for everyone.

If you have mild concerns and downtime is your priority, a series of lighter treatments may make sense.

If you have more established:

  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Significant sun damage
  • Crepey skin
  • Textural changes

a stronger resurfacing treatment may sometimes be more appropriate.

The decision should be based on the degree of correction needed and the amount of downtime you’re comfortable with.

When Can I Tell Whether I Need Another Treatment? #

Not immediately.

This is extremely important.

CO2 resurfacing initiates a healing and collagen-remodeling response that continues after the visible peeling has stopped.

You may see early improvements in:

  • Smoothness
  • Brightness
  • Texture

before the full collagen-related improvement develops.

Your skin can be finished peeling long before it is finished improving.

For that reason, we don’t judge the final result based on how your skin looks during the first few weeks.

How Long Does Collagen Remodeling Continue After CO2? #

Collagen remodeling develops gradually over the following weeks and months.

Research on CO2 resurfacing has demonstrated ongoing collagen changes beyond the initial healing period.

That means patience is part of the treatment.

The timeline can be thought of as:

Days ? wound healing

Weeks ? early skin-quality improvement

Months ? collagen remodeling

This is why performing another aggressive treatment too quickly may not make sense.

Should I Book My Second CO2 Treatment Before My First One? #

Not necessarily.

For stronger resurfacing, we often want to see how your skin responds before deciding what comes next.

After the first treatment, we can evaluate:

  • What improved
  • What remains
  • How well you healed
  • Whether another laser treatment is needed
  • Whether a different treatment would address the remaining concern better

Your second treatment does not necessarily need to be identical to your first.

What If My Skin Looks Better but I Still Have One Problem? #

This is where reassessment becomes important.

For example, CO2 may significantly improve your:

Sun damage + fine lines + texture

but you may still have a few tethered acne scars.

Instead of automatically repeating full-face aggressive CO2, it may make more sense to address those specific scars.

Likewise, your skin quality may improve while mild laxity remains.

That could shift the next treatment toward another modality.

Treat what remains—not simply repeat what you already did.

Can I Have CO2 Laser Every Year? #

Some patients choose periodic resurfacing as part of a long-term skin-maintenance strategy.

But annual CO2 should not be treated as an automatic requirement.

Your skin should be reassessed.

You may not need another aggressive treatment simply because twelve months have passed.

Depending on your skin, maintenance may instead involve:

  • Skincare
  • Daily sun protection
  • Lighter resurfacing
  • Microneedling
  • RF microneedling
  • Other collagen-support treatments

Treat the skin—not the calendar.

Will More CO2 Treatments Give Me Better Results? #

Not indefinitely.

More treatment does not automatically equal better skin.

Repeated aggressive resurfacing can increase the cumulative risk of:

  • Pigmentation changes
  • Prolonged redness
  • Delayed healing
  • Changes in skin texture
  • Scarring

The goal should never be to perform the maximum number of procedures.

The goal is to use the minimum appropriate treatment necessary to achieve meaningful improvement safely.

How Does Skin Type Affect the Number of Treatments? #

Skin type and pigmentation history are important.

Patients prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation may require:

  • More conservative settings
  • Careful pre-treatment planning
  • Strict sun protection
  • More cautious treatment intervals

In some cases, several conservative treatments may offer a better risk-benefit balance than one aggressive resurfacing session.

This is particularly important in melanin-rich and pigment-prone skin.

Does Age Determine How Many CO2 Treatments I Need? #

No.

A 60-year-old does not automatically need aggressive CO2.

And a 35-year-old does not automatically need a light treatment.

One 60-year-old may have excellent skin with mild sun damage.

Another may have:

  • Deep wrinkles
  • Significant photodamage
  • Crepey texture
  • Collagen loss

Their treatment plans should not be identical simply because they are the same age.

The treatment should match the skin—not the birthday.

How Do I Know Which DEKA CO2 Treatment I Need? #

At AIVI Aesthetics, our stronger DEKA fractional CO2 resurfacing is customized at different levels.

Mild Fractional Ablation — $1,200 #

May be considered for milder concerns and patients who need less aggressive resurfacing.

Moderate Fractional Ablation — $2,400 #

May be considered for more established wrinkles, sun damage, texture changes, certain acne scars, and greater collagen-remodeling needs.

Aggressive Fractional Ablation — $3,200 #

May be considered for appropriately selected patients with deeper wrinkles, advanced photoaging, more established acne scars, or significant textural changes.

CoolPeel is offered separately as our lighter, more superficial CO2 resurfacing option.

Your recommended level and number of treatments are determined after evaluating your skin.

So, How Many DEKA CO2 Laser Treatments Will I Need? #

For many patients, one appropriately selected stronger DEKA fractional CO2 resurfacing treatment may provide meaningful improvement.

Others may benefit from additional sessions.

A general way to think about treatment planning is:

Milder concerns ? lighter treatment may be enough, although a series may sometimes be appropriate

Moderate concerns ? one stronger treatment may produce meaningful improvement before reassessment

More advanced concerns ? stronger resurfacing may be appropriate, followed by healing and reassessment

Acne scars ? often require multiple sessions or combination treatment depending on scar type

There is no universal number.

And there shouldn’t be.

Your treatment plan should be based on your skin—not a predetermined package.

A Skin-Forward Approach to DEKA CO2 at AIVI Aesthetics #

At AIVI Aesthetics, we don’t automatically tell every patient:

“You need three treatments.”

We first determine:

What are we treating?

How advanced is it?

How much resurfacing does your skin need?

How much downtime are you comfortable with?

Then we choose the treatment intensity.

That may be CoolPeel for lighter resurfacing.

It may be mild, moderate, or aggressive DEKA fractional CO2 when stronger correction is appropriate.

Or another treatment may make more sense altogether.

Depending on your concerns, we may discuss Vivace RF microneedling, SkinPen microneedling, acne-scar subcision, PRF, Sculptra, Radiesse, professional skincare, or a combination approach.

The goal isn’t to sell you the greatest number of treatments.

The goal is to get the right treatment for your skin.
