Is Rejuran Actually Effective? #
Rejuran has become one of the most talked-about regenerative skin treatments, particularly among patients interested in Korean aesthetics and treatments that improve the skin without dramatically changing facial features.
But popularity doesn’t necessarily mean effectiveness.
So, is Rejuran actually effective?
The current evidence is promising. Studies of injectable polynucleotides have reported improvements in areas such as fine lines, skin texture, hydration, elasticity, roughness, and overall skin rejuvenation. However, the research is still developing, and Rejuran shouldn’t be viewed as a miracle treatment or a replacement for every other aesthetic procedure.
The most important question is not simply whether Rejuran works.
It’s whether Rejuran works for the specific problem you’re trying to improve.
What Does Rejuran Actually Do? #
Rejuran contains purified polynucleotides (PN), which are DNA-derived molecules commonly sourced from salmonids.
Unlike Botox, Rejuran doesn’t relax facial muscles.
Unlike traditional dermal filler, its primary purpose isn’t to create significant facial volume.
Instead, polynucleotide treatments are used with the goal of improving the quality and condition of the skin.
Research into polynucleotides has focused on potential improvements in:
- Skin hydration
- Elasticity
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin texture
- Roughness
- Pore appearance
- Tissue remodeling
- Overall skin quality
A systematic review of nine studies involving 219 patients found promising improvements in wrinkles, texture, and elasticity, although the researchers emphasized that the available evidence was generally low to moderate in quality and that better clinical trials are needed.
Does Rejuran Really Improve Wrinkles? #
There is clinical evidence suggesting that Rejuran can improve certain wrinkles.
In a large prospective study involving more than 200 participants, purified Rejuran polynucleotide treatment produced measurable improvement in crow’s-feet wrinkles.
However, this doesn’t mean Rejuran should replace Botox for every wrinkle.
That’s because wrinkles have different causes.
If your crow’s feet are primarily caused by repetitive smiling and squinting, a neuromodulator such as Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin directly addresses the muscle movement creating those lines.
If the skin around your eyes has also become thin, crepey, dehydrated, or less elastic, improving skin quality may address another part of the problem.
Sometimes treating both components creates a more comprehensive result.
Is Rejuran Effective for Under-Eye Skin? #
The under-eye area is one of the reasons Rejuran has become so popular.
A randomized controlled study comparing polynucleotide injections with non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid around the eyes found improvements with both treatments.
Interestingly, the polynucleotide group showed greater improvement in measurements of skin elasticity, hydration, roughness, and pore volume in certain assessments.
This makes polynucleotides particularly interesting for someone whose under-eye concern is:
- Crepey skin
- Fine lines
- Thin-looking skin
- Dehydration
- Reduced elasticity
However, Rejuran won’t fix every under-eye concern.
If your primary problem is deep hollowness, pigmentation, prominent blood vessels, fat-pad changes, or significant skin laxity, another treatment may be more appropriate.
Does Rejuran Improve Skin Texture? #
Potentially, yes.
Skin texture is one of the areas where polynucleotide treatments have shown encouraging results.
Clinical research has reported improvements in skin roughness and overall texture, and broader reviews of polynucleotide treatments have found similar promising results.
This may be beneficial for patients who feel their skin simply isn’t as smooth or refined as it used to be.
However, significant textural problems may require more aggressive treatment.
If you have deeper acne scars, substantial sun damage, or significant uneven texture, treatments such as microneedling, RF microneedling, or CO2 laser resurfacing may provide stronger remodeling.
Does Rejuran Help With Hydration? #
Hydration appears to be another potential benefit of polynucleotide treatment.
Clinical studies evaluating the periorbital area have reported improvements in skin hydration following PN injections.
But Rejuran isn’t simply an injectable moisturizer.
The interest in polynucleotides comes from their broader potential role in creating a hydrated extracellular environment and supporting tissue remodeling and regenerative processes.
For someone whose skin is beginning to look thin, dry, or crepey, this combination can be particularly appealing.
Does Rejuran Stimulate Collagen? #
Polynucleotides are often described as “collagen-stimulating,” but this claim needs some context.
Laboratory, preclinical, and emerging clinical research suggests polynucleotides may support processes involved in fibroblast activity, extracellular-matrix remodeling, and tissue regeneration.
However, Rejuran shouldn’t automatically be considered equivalent to treatments specifically used for more substantial collagen remodeling.
For example:
Rejuran ? skin quality and regenerative support
Microneedling ? controlled wound healing and collagen remodeling
RF microneedling ? collagen remodeling plus radiofrequency energy
Sculptra ? deeper biostimulation
CO2 laser ? resurfacing and significant collagen remodeling
They’re different tools.
The right one depends on how much correction your skin actually needs.
How Long Does It Take to See Rejuran Results? #
Rejuran isn’t generally a treatment where you should expect to walk out looking dramatically different.
That’s actually part of its appeal for some patients.
The goal is gradual improvement in skin quality rather than immediate transformation.
Patients may begin noticing improvements in hydration, smoothness, or overall skin appearance first, while changes related to tissue remodeling may develop more gradually.
Clinical studies of polynucleotide treatments commonly evaluate outcomes over several weeks following a treatment series rather than judging effectiveness immediately after one injection.
How Many Rejuran Treatments Do You Need? #
Many published polynucleotide studies have used a series of treatments rather than a single session.
For example, some clinical trials have used three treatments approximately two weeks apart.
Real-world protocols may differ depending on the specific product, treatment area, skin concern, and provider.
This is important when setting expectations.
If you’re evaluating whether Rejuran “worked” after one treatment, you may not be comparing your experience with the protocols used in clinical studies.
At the same time, everyone shouldn’t automatically receive the same number of sessions.
Treatment should be individualized.
What Results Should You Realistically Expect? #
This is where expectations matter.
Rejuran may help your skin look:
Smoother.
More hydrated.
More resilient.
Less crepey.
More refined.
Healthier overall.
What it probably won’t do is dramatically lift your face, replace significant lost volume, erase deep acne scars, completely eliminate pigmentation, or stop strong facial muscles from creating wrinkles.
If you’re expecting those results, Rejuran may feel disappointing—not because the treatment didn’t work, but because it was being asked to solve the wrong problem.
Is Rejuran Effective for Acne Scars? #
There is growing interest in polynucleotides for scar remodeling.
Research has explored PN treatments for various scars, including acne-related and post-procedure scars, with promising findings.
However, significant acne scarring is rarely a one-treatment problem.
Different scars require different approaches.
For example:
Rolling scars may require subcision or collagen remodeling.
Boxcar scars may respond to resurfacing or other scar-directed treatments.
Ice-pick scars may require targeted techniques.
Rejuran may potentially support skin quality and regenerative processes, but it shouldn’t automatically replace established acne-scar treatments.
Is Rejuran Better Than Microneedling? #
Neither is universally better.
If your main concern is skin quality, hydration, fine lines, and crepey skin, Rejuran may be appealing.
If your main concern is acne scars, enlarged pores, uneven texture, and collagen remodeling, microneedling may be a stronger starting point.
For certain patients, different treatments can be incorporated into a longer-term skin plan.
The goal isn’t to choose the trendiest treatment.
It’s to choose the treatment that matches the problem.
Is Rejuran Better Than Sculptra? #
Again, they’re designed for different concerns.
Rejuran primarily focuses on skin quality.
Sculptra is used for deeper biostimulation and age-related changes involving collagen and facial support.
Someone with beautiful facial structure but increasingly thin and crepey skin may have very different needs from someone experiencing broader facial volume and structural changes.
That’s why we don’t consider them direct competitors.
Why Do Some People Love Rejuran While Others Don’t See Much Difference? #
There are several possible reasons.
Results can depend on:
- Starting skin condition
- Age and degree of collagen loss
- Treatment area
- Product used
- Amount of product
- Number of treatments
- Injection technique
- Other treatments being performed
- Skincare routine
- Sun exposure
- Individual biological response
- Expectations
Someone with relatively healthy skin seeking subtle improvement may be very happy with increased smoothness and hydration.
Someone expecting Rejuran to produce the same transformation as aggressive laser resurfacing may be disappointed.
The treatment has to match the goal.
What Does the Research Actually Say? #
The most useful way to describe the evidence is promising but not definitive.
A systematic review evaluating polynucleotides in aesthetic medicine identified nine studies involving 219 patients. Several studies demonstrated statistically significant improvements in wrinkles, texture, and elasticity, and patient satisfaction was generally moderate to high.
However, the researchers also found considerable variation among studies and rated the available evidence as low to moderate quality.
They concluded that polynucleotides show promise but that larger, rigorous clinical trials are still needed.
That distinction matters.
Rejuran isn’t simply hype.
But we also shouldn’t market it as though decades of large-scale clinical research have already proven every claim made about it.
What U.S. Patients Should Know #
Patients in the United States should also understand the difference between clinical effectiveness and regulatory approval.
Rejuran injectable products are used internationally, particularly in South Korea and other Asian markets. International use doesn’t automatically mean a specific injectable Rejuran product is FDA-approved for cosmetic injection in the United States.
If you’re considering any injectable polynucleotide treatment, ask your provider:
- What exact product are you using?
- Who manufactures it?
- Where was it obtained?
- What is its current U.S. regulatory status?
- How will it be administered?
- What evidence supports its use for my particular concern?
Transparency should be part of any aesthetic treatment.
So, Is Rejuran Actually Effective? #
Yes, there is legitimate clinical evidence suggesting polynucleotide treatments such as Rejuran can improve certain aspects of skin quality, including wrinkles, texture, hydration, and elasticity.
But there is an equally important second half to that answer:
The evidence is still developing, and Rejuran isn’t the best treatment for every skin concern.
Rejuran makes the most sense when your goal aligns with what the treatment is designed to improve.
If you want healthier, smoother, more hydrated, more resilient-looking skin, it may be worth discussing.
If you’re trying to correct significant skin laxity, deep acne scars, advanced sun damage, major volume loss, or dynamic wrinkles, another treatment—or a combination approach—may provide better results.
A Skin-Forward Approach at AIVI Aesthetics #
At AIVI Aesthetics, we don’t recommend a treatment simply because it’s popular.
We first determine what’s actually changing.
Is it your skin quality?
Collagen?
Texture?
Sun damage?
Muscle movement?
Volume?
Once we understand the problem, we can determine whether a regenerative skin treatment, microneedling, RF microneedling, CO2 laser resurfacing, biostimulation, or another approach makes the most sense.
Our goal is healthy skin and natural-looking rejuvenation—not doing more treatments just for the sake of doing more.
