Is Rejuran Better Than Microneedling? #
If your goal is healthier, smoother, more youthful-looking skin, you may be comparing Rejuran vs microneedling.
Both treatments are associated with skin rejuvenation and collagen support, but they work very differently.
So, is Rejuran better than microneedling?
Not necessarily.
Rejuran is more focused on improving skin quality and supporting regenerative processes, while microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the skin’s natural wound-healing and collagen-remodeling response.
If your main concern is thin, crepey, dehydrated-looking skin, you may be interested in a regenerative skin treatment. If you’re concerned about acne scars, enlarged pores, or uneven texture, microneedling may play a stronger role.
And for some patients, the best approach may involve more than one strategy.
What Is Rejuran? #
Rejuran is a brand of injectable treatments containing polynucleotides (PN), purified DNA-derived molecules commonly sourced from salmonids.
Polynucleotides have gained attention in regenerative aesthetics because of their potential role in supporting tissue repair and improving overall skin quality.
Rather than functioning like traditional dermal filler, Rejuran is generally associated with goals such as improving:
- Fine lines
- Crepey-looking skin
- Hydration
- Skin elasticity
- Skin texture
- Overall skin quality
The emphasis is less on changing facial shape and more on helping the skin itself look healthier and more resilient.
What Is Microneedling? #
Microneedling takes a completely different approach.
During a microneedling treatment, very small sterile needles create controlled microchannels in the skin.
This controlled injury triggers the body’s natural healing response, which can stimulate processes involved in collagen and elastin remodeling.
Microneedling is commonly used for concerns such as:
- Acne scars
- Enlarged pores
- Fine lines
- Uneven skin texture
- Mild signs of photoaging
- Overall skin rejuvenation
Unlike Rejuran, microneedling doesn’t depend on injecting a regenerative ingredient to initiate the primary treatment effect.
The controlled injury is the treatment.
Rejuran vs Microneedling: What’s the Main Difference? #
The biggest difference is how they stimulate skin improvement.
Rejuran provides polynucleotides to the skin with the goal of supporting regenerative processes and skin quality.
Microneedling stimulates the skin by creating controlled micro-injuries that initiate the body’s wound-healing response.
A simple way to think about it is:
Rejuran ? regenerative skin-quality support
Microneedling ? controlled collagen remodeling
Neither approach is automatically better.
It depends on what you’re trying to correct.
Which Is Better for Fine Lines? #
Both treatments may be considered for fine lines, but the cause and depth of the lines matter.
If your fine lines are associated with thin, dehydrated, or crepey-looking skin, improving overall skin quality may be particularly important.
That’s where a treatment such as Rejuran may be considered.
Microneedling can also improve fine lines by stimulating collagen remodeling within the skin.
However, if your wrinkles are primarily caused by repetitive facial movement—such as forehead lines or crow’s feet—neither Rejuran nor microneedling addresses the muscle activity creating those wrinkles.
In that situation, a neuromodulator may be more appropriate.
The treatment should match the cause.
Which Is Better for Acne Scars? #
For atrophic acne scars, microneedling has an important advantage: it is already well established as a procedure for acne-scar remodeling.
Microneedling creates controlled injury that encourages collagen remodeling within areas of scarring.
Rejuran and other polynucleotide treatments are also being studied for acne scars, and early research is promising. However, they shouldn’t automatically be considered a replacement for established scar treatments.
For more significant acne scarring, we may consider treatments such as:
- Microneedling
- RF microneedling
- CO2 laser resurfacing
- Subcision
- Chemical reconstruction techniques
- Regenerative treatments
- Combination therapy
The type of scar matters as much as the treatment.
Rolling, boxcar, and ice-pick scars don’t necessarily respond to the same approach.
Which Is Better for Enlarged Pores? #
If enlarged pores and uneven texture are the primary concerns, microneedling may have the more direct role because of its ability to stimulate collagen remodeling.
Visible pores can be influenced by several factors, including oil production, genetics, acne, collagen loss, and skin elasticity.
Rejuran may improve overall skin quality and elasticity, which could potentially improve the appearance of the skin.
But if enlarged pores are your primary concern, we would first determine why they’re visible before deciding on treatment.
Which Is Better for Crepey Skin? #
This is where Rejuran may become particularly interesting.
Thin, crepey skin isn’t necessarily the same problem as acne scars or enlarged pores.
If the primary concern is skin quality, hydration, elasticity, and superficial fine lines, a polynucleotide-based treatment may fit that goal well.
Microneedling can also improve crepey skin through collagen remodeling.
The decision may depend on the treatment area, degree of skin thinning, your tolerance for downtime, and whether additional texture or scarring needs to be addressed.
Which Is Better for Collagen Production? #
Microneedling is specifically designed to trigger a controlled wound-healing response that stimulates collagen remodeling.
Rejuran takes a different regenerative approach. Polynucleotides have been investigated for their potential effects on fibroblast activity, tissue repair, hydration, and extracellular-matrix remodeling.
So both treatments can be discussed in the context of collagen and regeneration, but they get there through different mechanisms.
If significant collagen loss is your main concern, we may also need to consider whether either treatment is strong enough on its own.
Treatments such as RF microneedling, CO2 laser resurfacing, Sculptra, or Radiesse may have a more significant role depending on the degree and location of collagen loss.
What About Under-Eye Rejuvenation? #
The under-eye area requires a particularly individualized approach.
Patients may complain of “tired eyes,” but that can mean:
- Crepey skin
- Fine lines
- Thin skin
- Pigmentation
- Visible blood vessels
- Hollowness
- Skin laxity
Rejuran has gained international popularity for improving delicate under-eye skin quality without primarily trying to add volume.
Microneedling may also be used cautiously around appropriate areas to improve fine lines and collagen.
But neither treatment fixes every under-eye problem.
If the concern is actually hollowness or structural volume loss, treating only the skin may produce limited improvement.
Which Has More Downtime? #
Both treatments can cause temporary reactions.
After Rejuran injections, patients may experience:
- Small injection-site bumps
- Redness
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Tenderness
After microneedling, patients may experience:
- Redness
- Sensitivity
- Mild swelling
- Dryness
- Temporary roughness or flaking
Recovery varies depending on treatment intensity, technique, treatment area, individual healing response, and whether additional products or procedures are used.
If you have an important event coming up, discuss timing with your provider rather than assuming either treatment has no downtime.
Can You Combine Rejuran With Microneedling? #
This is an important question because combining treatments doesn’t automatically mean better results.
Microneedling creates microchannels in the skin, which can alter how substances applied afterward enter the tissue.
A product intended for injection is not automatically intended for topical application over freshly microneedled skin, and a cosmetic serum isn’t automatically sterile or appropriate for use on a disrupted skin barrier.
The specific product, regulatory status, sterility, and intended route of administration matter.
A qualified provider should determine whether treatments should be performed separately, combined within an appropriate protocol, or not combined at all.

Is Rejuran Safer Than Microneedling? #
It isn’t useful to call one universally safer than the other.
They have different risks.
Microneedling breaks the skin barrier and can cause infection, irritation, pigmentation changes, or scarring when performed incorrectly or in an inappropriate patient.
Rejuran involves multiple injections and may cause swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, injection-site bumps, or other reactions. Injectable procedures also introduce risks associated with anatomy and injection technique.
Product regulation matters as well.
Microneedling devices have FDA-authorized indications in the United States, while Rejuran-branded injectable polynucleotide treatments used internationally should not automatically be assumed to have FDA approval for cosmetic injection in the U.S.
Patients should always ask exactly what product and device are being used.
So, Is Rejuran Better Than Microneedling? #
It depends on your skin concern.
If your main concerns are:
Thin or crepey skin + hydration + fine lines + overall skin quality ? Rejuran may be worth discussing.
If your main concerns are:
Acne scars + enlarged pores + uneven texture + collagen remodeling ? Microneedling may be the stronger starting point.
If you have multiple concerns, a comprehensive skin plan may use different treatments at different times.
That’s often more effective than expecting one treatment to fix everything.
Don’t Choose the Treatment—Choose the Goal #
At AIVI Aesthetics, we take a skin-forward approach to aesthetic medicine.
We don’t start by asking whether you want Rejuran or microneedling.
We start by asking:
What is actually happening to your skin?
Is it collagen loss? Acne scarring? Sun damage? Dehydration? Enlarged pores? Crepey skin? Pigmentation?
Once we understand the underlying problem, we can determine whether microneedling, RF microneedling, CO2 laser resurfacing, regenerative treatments, professional skincare, or another approach makes the most sense.
The goal isn’t to do the most treatments.
It’s to help you maintain healthy, beautiful skin and natural-looking results without looking overdone.
