I have melasma. Is Vivace safe for me?

Can Vivace RF Microneedling Treat Melasma? #

Melasma is a complex skin condition that causes brown or gray patches on the face, often triggered by sun exposure, hormones, genetics, and inflammation. If you’re considering Vivace RF Microneedling for melasma, it’s important to understand that treatment requires a cautious and highly individualized approach.

At AIVI Aesthetics, we carefully evaluate every patient with melasma before recommending Vivace because not every case is an ideal candidate.

Can Vivace Help Melasma? #

The answer is sometimes—but with caution.

Vivace RF Microneedling stimulates collagen production using microneedling combined with radiofrequency energy. While this treatment can improve overall skin texture, tone, and quality, the heat and inflammation created during the procedure may trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) or worsen melasma in some individuals, particularly those with darker skin tones or active melasma.

For this reason, Vivace is not considered a first-line treatment for melasma.

When Might Vivace Be Appropriate? #

In carefully selected patients with well-controlled melasma, Vivace may be considered as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. If appropriate, your provider may:

  • Use conservative treatment settings to minimize inflammation.
  • Recommend a series of lower-intensity treatments.
  • Ensure your melasma is stable before beginning treatment.
  • Pair Vivace with a medical-grade skincare regimen designed for pigmentation.
  • Emphasize strict daily sun protection before and after treatment.

Every treatment plan is customized based on your skin type, medical history, and risk factors.

Treatments That May Better Address Melasma #

Because melasma is driven by multiple factors, the most effective approach often combines professional treatments with consistent home skincare. Depending on your skin evaluation, your provider may recommend treatments such as:

  • VI Peel to improve pigmentation and skin tone.
  • HydraFacial to support healthy skin and improve overall complexion.
  • Medical-grade skincare containing ingredients that help brighten and maintain results.
  • A customized skincare routine combined with diligent daily sunscreen use.

A Personalized Consultation Is Essential #

At AIVI Aesthetics, we’ll evaluate your skin, discuss your melasma history, identify potential triggers, and recommend the safest treatment plan for your unique needs.
