Is getting an IV insertion painful?

Most people experience minimal discomfort during an IV insertion. Here’s what you might feel:

  • Quick Pinch or Sting: The initial insertion of the needle may feel like a brief pinch, similar to a fingerprick blood test.
  • Slight Pressure: You might experience a sensation of pressure as the flexible catheter is threaded into the vein.
  • Temporary Discomfort: These sensations generally subside quickly once the IV is in place.

Minimizing Discomfort:

  • Skilled Professionals: At AIVI Aesthetics, our trained nurses are experienced in minimizing IV insertion discomfort.
  • Numbing Cream: Topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand if you’re particularly sensitive.
  • Relaxation: Staying calm helps reduce tension, which can make discomfort feel more pronounced.

Important Note: If you feel significant pain during your IV insertion, let the nurse know immediately. They can adjust the IV or find a more comfortable insertion site.
