Is Rejuran Better Than Sculptra?

Is Rejuran Better Than Sculptra? #

If you’re interested in regenerative aesthetics and collagen stimulation, you may have come across two popular treatments: Rejuran and Sculptra.

Both are discussed as treatments that can support more natural-looking rejuvenation, but they aren’t interchangeable.

So, is Rejuran better than Sculptra?

Not necessarily.

A better question is:

What are you trying to improve—your skin quality or deeper facial collagen and structural support?

Rejuran is a polynucleotide-based treatment primarily associated with improving skin quality, hydration, texture, elasticity, and fine lines. Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and is an FDA-approved injectable used for correction of facial wrinkles, including fine lines and wrinkles in the cheek region.

Understanding this difference can help you determine which type of treatment makes more sense for your goals.

Rejuran vs Sculptra: What’s the Main Difference? #

The simplest way to think about the difference is:

Rejuran focuses more on the quality of the skin.

Sculptra works at a deeper level and is better suited when collagen loss and facial structural changes are becoming more noticeable.

They can overlap in their regenerative goals, but they aren’t trying to accomplish exactly the same thing.

Rejuran #

Rejuran contains purified polynucleotides (PN) derived from salmonid DNA. Polynucleotides are being studied and used internationally for skin rejuvenation, hydration, tissue remodeling, and scar treatment.

Rejuran may be considered when the primary concern is:

  • Fine lines
  • Crepey skin
  • Thin-looking skin
  • Dehydration
  • Uneven texture
  • Reduced elasticity
  • Under-eye skin quality
  • Overall skin rejuvenation

The goal isn’t primarily to add facial volume.

It’s to improve how the skin looks and behaves.

Sculptra #

Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA).

Rather than behaving like a traditional hyaluronic acid filler that immediately fills a space, Sculptra is used as a longer-term injectable treatment for facial wrinkles and gradual aesthetic improvement. The FDA notes that results may last up to approximately 24 months.

Sculptra may make more sense when you’re beginning to notice:

  • More significant collagen loss
  • Facial aging
  • Changes in facial contours
  • Reduced structural support
  • Wrinkles associated with aging
  • Broader age-related changes through the cheeks and face

Which Is Better for Collagen: Rejuran or Sculptra? #

If your main goal is significant collagen stimulation and deeper facial rejuvenation, Sculptra will generally have the stronger role.

Sculptra’s PLLA particles are designed to produce gradual aesthetic improvement rather than simply giving an immediate skin-hydration effect. It is a long-lasting injectable material administered as a treatment series.

Rejuran has also been associated with tissue remodeling and collagen-related effects, but its role is more commonly centered around skin regeneration and skin quality. Current expert literature describes polynucleotides as forming a hydrophilic, scaffold-like matrix that may support hydration and tissue remodeling.

So if someone comes to us saying:

“My skin is thin, crepey, and doesn’t look as healthy as it used to,”

we may think differently than if someone says:

“My whole face feels like it’s losing support as I age.”

Those aren’t the same problem.

Which Is Better for Fine Lines? #

It depends on why you have the fine lines.

Fine lines associated with thin, dehydrated, or crepey skin may make Rejuran particularly interesting because the treatment focuses on skin quality.

Polynucleotide treatments have been studied for concerns including wrinkles, hydration, and skin rejuvenation.

If the fine lines are part of broader age-related collagen and structural changes, Sculptra may play a more significant role.

And if the wrinkle is primarily caused by repetitive muscle movement—such as forehead lines or crow’s feet—neither treatment may be the first thing we recommend.

A neuromodulator such as Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin may make more sense.

This is why we treat the cause of the wrinkle, not simply the wrinkle itself.

Which Is Better for Crepey Skin? #

For thin, crepey, dehydrated-looking skin, Rejuran may have an advantage.

Polynucleotides are increasingly used for skin hydration and rejuvenation, and expert literature describes applications involving skin quality, barrier support, and tissue remodeling.

This can make Rejuran particularly interesting for delicate areas where the primary concern is the skin itself rather than significant volume loss.

Sculptra can still improve the overall appearance of aging skin through deeper rejuvenation, but it isn’t necessarily the treatment we would choose solely because someone has superficial crepiness.

Rejuran vs Sculptra for Under-Eye Rejuvenation #

The under-eye area is another situation where the distinction becomes important.

Someone may say:

“My under eyes look older.”

But that can mean several different things.

They may have:

  • Fine lines
  • Crepey skin
  • Thin skin
  • Pigmentation
  • Visible blood vessels
  • Hollowness
  • Structural volume loss

If the main concern is thin or crepey skin quality, a polynucleotide-based approach may be considered.

If the concern is structural support or volume loss elsewhere in the face that is contributing to the appearance of the under-eye area, the treatment strategy may be completely different.

We don’t automatically inject the area simply because that’s where the patient sees the problem.

Which Gives More Volume? #

Sculptra has the greater role when the treatment goal involves broader facial structural rejuvenation.

Rejuran isn’t primarily a volumizing treatment.

If you’re looking for improvement in facial support associated with aging, Sculptra may be more appropriate.

If you like your facial shape and don’t feel that you need additional volume but want your skin to look smoother, healthier, and more resilient, Rejuran may better match that goal.

Which Looks More Natural? #

Both treatments can produce natural-looking results when used appropriately.

Natural-looking aesthetics aren’t determined by the product alone.

They’re determined by:

how much is used, where it’s placed, why it’s being used, and whether it actually addresses the patient’s concern.

At AIVI Aesthetics, our goal isn’t to make everyone look fuller.

For some patients, improving skin quality is enough.

For others, addressing deeper collagen loss creates a more refreshed appearance without making them look “filled.”

And some patients benefit from addressing both.

Do You Have to Choose Between Rejuran and Sculptra? #

Not necessarily.

This is where regenerative aesthetics becomes more interesting.

Rejuran and Sculptra may address different layers of the aging process.

Think of facial aging like a house.

Your skin is the exterior surface.

Collagen, fat compartments, ligaments, muscle, and bone provide deeper support.

You can improve the surface without addressing deeper structural changes. And you can improve deeper support while still having dehydrated, sun-damaged, or crepey skin.

For the right patient, a comprehensive treatment plan may address both.

For example:

Sculptra ? deeper collagen and facial support

Rejuran ? skin quality, hydration, texture, and fine lines

That doesn’t mean everyone needs both treatments.

It means we shouldn’t expect one treatment to solve every aspect of facial aging.

Rejuran vs Sculptra: Quick Comparison #

Concern Rejuran Sculptra
Skin quality Excellent focus Can improve overall appearance
Hydration Primary benefit Not the primary goal
Fine lines Good for skin-quality-related lines Good when related to broader aging
Crepey skin Strong consideration May help indirectly
Collagen support Yes Major treatment goal
Facial structural support Limited Stronger option
Significant volume loss Not the primary treatment More appropriate
Under-eye skin quality Often considered Not typically used directly for superficial under-eye skin
Results Gradual Gradual
Natural-looking approach Yes Yes

What About Safety? #

Both are injectable treatments, so neither is completely risk-free.

Temporary reactions can include swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising, and injection-site reactions.

Sculptra also carries risks such as papules and nodules, and proper injection technique and patient selection are important. The FDA provides specific contraindications and safety information for the product.

Available literature on polynucleotides suggests a favorable safety profile, but the evidence base is still developing.

There is another important distinction for patients in the United States: Sculptra has FDA-approved aesthetic indications in the U.S. Rejuran is used internationally, so patients considering an injectable polynucleotide treatment should verify the exact product being offered and its current U.S. regulatory status.

So, Is Rejuran Better Than Sculptra? #

Neither treatment is universally better. They solve different problems.

If your biggest concern is:

Fine lines + crepey skin + dehydration + texture ? Rejuran may be more appropriate.

If your biggest concern is:

Collagen loss + broader facial aging + reduced structural support ? Sculptra may be more appropriate.

And if you’re experiencing both?

A comprehensive treatment plan may address skin quality and deeper collagen loss separately.

That’s often a better approach than expecting one injectable to do everything.

Our Skin-Forward Approach at AIVI Aesthetics #

At AIVI Aesthetics, we don’t start a consultation by deciding which syringe you need.

We start with your skin.

What has changed?

Is it dehydration? Sun damage? Fine lines? Collagen loss? Volume loss? Skin laxity? Muscle movement?

Once we understand the cause, we can determine whether Rejuran, Sculptra, RF microneedling, CO2 laser resurfacing, another regenerative treatment—or sometimes no injectable at all—makes the most sense.

The goal is to help you look refreshed and healthy without looking overdone or changing what makes you look like you.
